07.23.2012 X MEDIA LAB CALLS FOR CREATIVE PROJECTS FOR XML SWITZERLAND ‘PARTICIPATION CULTURE’
Nominations are open for digital media and cultural practitioners to workshop their ‘participation culture’ ideas with the world’s leading participation culture visionaries and digital media investors in Basel, 14 – 16 September 2012.
The internationally acclaimed creative industries event, X Media Lab (XML) is calling for Switzerland’s hottest digital culture people and projects to become a part of XML Switzerland ‘Participation Culture’.
XML is an intensive one-day conference followed by a two-day creative ideas and mentoring workshop for selected teams to develop their own projects and ideas with one-on-one assistance from some of the world’s best digital media and participation culture experts.
XML Switzerland is an exclusive money-can’t-buy experience. If you have a dream, the XML mentors have the knowledge, skills and contacts to make it a reality!
Previous XML project teams have included startups which have since:
• received government, angel or venture capital funding
• won awards at MIPCOM in Cannes and UNESCO in New York
• been commissioned by broadcasters; funded by telecommunication companies
• become international success stories!
XML Project teams have also included core creative teams from inside larger, more established organisations such as:
• Lonely Planet; Disney Internet Group; Zuji.com
• National public broadcasters in China, Australia and the Netherlands
• Museum of Western Australia; Singapore Ministry of Transport
• India’s biggest games and animation company
Switzerland is one of the world’s most innovative nations - the birthplace of the World Wide Web, the 3D microchip, and the home of CERN. It is culturally diverse with a vast range of traditional customs and a thriving arts scene.
XML Switzerland will highlight the intersections between the cultural, creative and technological – the interplay between the freedom of art, the precision of engineering and the participation of communities in creating fresh new and interactive forms of cultural expression.

It is a million dollars worth of mentoring in just 2 days and an adrenalin-fuelled boost for your creative ideas!
How does the Lab work?
Do you have a game-changing idea or ground-breaking project that you want to deliver to your audience?
Nominate your team of 2 – 5 people with the ability to talk about the creative, digital and financial aspects of your project or idea. Please note that at least one team member must be Swiss or live in Switzerland.
16 selected teams will gain access to all the XML Switzerland ‘Participation Culture’ speakers and mentors in private one-on-one consultation sessions over the course of the Lab.
Nomination is simple and free!
What kinds of projects is XML looking for?
Projects can have a cultural, entertainment, educational or informational objective. They can be:
• Purely conceptual propositions
• Proof of concept
• Early prototypes (e.g. script, demo, beta or wireframe level)
• Transmedia projects
• Projects you might be trying to localise for other cultural or language groups
At all stages the focus of XML is on you and your idea!
To be eligible to participate in the Swizz Lab, project teams must include a person living in Switzerland or who is Swiss.
